New York Rangers Have Established Identity Despite Injuries

Things did not look good authentic nhl jerseys cheap
for the Rangers after losing Marian Gaborik and Chris Drury during the team’s home opener October 15. Hearing that Vinny Prospal would be out for several months following knee surgery didn’t make matters any easier. Not many thought that would change the course of a season for the Rangers.Since that game, the Rangers have gone 3 1, including beating two of the NHL’s hottest teams (Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs) and the New Jersey Devils. In the process, they have established themselves as a hard nosed, in your face physical team that is not easy to play against.I thought the season was going down the tubes, especially following last Monday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche. But the team has turned things around with Artem Anisimov, Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan leading the way. This impromptu top line has done everything for the team, from scoring goals to killing penalties. On top of that, each player is home grown, eliminating the notion that the Rangers just buy their top tier talent. The emergence of Anisimov on the top line is great for Rangers fans to see, as many felt he was not given a fair chance during the preseason and training camp.Derek Stepan, Sean Avery and Ruslan Fedentenko has been great as well. Stepan has obviously cooled down since his hat trick on opening night, but has still been very effective. Avery has finally seemed to find a balance with playing hockey and getting under the opposition’s skin. Fedetenko has also been finding the net, and seems to be on the right track. The best story thus far has been the success of Brian Boyle. He seems like he is very well liked in the locker room, and really came to camp this season knowing that he had to work to make the team. Other guys would have folded under the pressure, but Boyle used it as motivation and is off to a great start. If he can find his goal touch that he had in college, he’ll be a great third line center for a couple of years to come. The defense is still a question mark based on their youth. I’m glad to see that coach John Tortorella is giving Matt Gilroy a chance after scratching him to open the season. He brings a nice dynamic to a more defense oriented blueline.Dan Girardi and newly named assistant captain Marc Staal will give you shutdown defense night in and night out, and Michael Del Zotto seems to be feeding off them defensively. The sophomore defenseman has been more sound in his own end since the Islander game two weeks ago. Many Rangers fans would hate to admit it, but Michael Roszival has been very solid thus far this season. I wasn’t sure what kind of start he would have since taking over as the No. 1 whipping boy at Madison Square Garden with Wade Redden’s demotion to the AHL, but he’s played well, especially on the road. Finally in net, Henrik Lundqvist must have been telling the truth about getting into a groove to start the season. The Rangers played very spaced out games early on and are now finally getting into the meat of their season. Martin Biron showed he is more than a capable backup, and should be able to take a lot of pressure of Lundqvist.Obviously it is still very early, but there are positive signs that this team is getting it. Their hard nosed, North American style is winning games. Their team play is necessary moving forward with a complete lack of star power up front. It may not last, but right now, Ranger fans should be happy.
