What do you think of players being challenged to fight after a big but clean hit?Scott Burnside: I guess I’ll never fully understand The Code. In theory shouldn’t The Code applaud a big, hard hit like the one that Jake McCabe of the Buffalo Sabres put on super rookie Patrik Laine of the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday? Instead, every hit, regardless of whether it’s a clean one or not and let’s be clear, the McCabe hit on Laine was within the rules is followed by players leaping to their teammate’s defense. It happened the moment Laine went down. Guess that’s part of The Code too. Don’t get me wrong, it’s unfortunate cheap jerseys china
that Laine was diagnosed with a concussion. But it would be refreshing to see, just once, a player take a big, clean hit and have players play on as if it these kinds of hits are part of the game. What a concept.

Joe McDonald: I understand coming to the defense of a teammate, but the idea of challenging an opponent after a good, clean hit is getting ridiculous. Hockey is a fast and physical game but it comes to a screeching halt when a player gets knocked off his skates. To the players, I say: Take the hit, suck it up and continue playing. As long as it’s a clean hit, there’s no need to retaliate. I also understand when it’s a franchise player on the receiving end of said hit, but it’s part of the game. It shouldn’t matter if it’s Nos. 99, 66, 87, 97 or any generational player. As long as it’s clean, it’s fair.

Craig Custance:I’m usually in Scott’s camp on this. No need to attack after every clean hit. But in the case of the hit on Laine, we’re talking about one of the game’s best, young players getting absolutely flattened. His teammates had a split second, not the benefit of replays, to decide what they thought of the hit, and I had no issues with them coming to his defense. Plus, if I’m the Jets, I want opposing players thinking twice before lining up Laine. So in this case, I liked the response from Winnipeg.

Corey Pronman: There is something illogical about a player acting within the rules (legal contact) and then subsequently being challenged to act outside the rules (fight and receive a major penalty). I’m sure Winnipeg players at the time would argue they thought McCabe’s hit was illegal. It’s not easy to determine this stuff at the time, given the speed of the play and amid all the emotions. The issue with unwritten codes is it’s hard to know when there’s been a violation. I think the hockey community in general needs to have a hard look at whether this is the way we want our game to operate. Based on recent rule changes at the amateur level, like the OHL for example, it might not be the case in the long term.

Pierre LeBrun: More interesting to me was the reaction from Shea Weber on Saturday night in Toronto after Zach Hyman plowed into Carey Price and the Maple Leafs winger got penalized for it. As most people know about me, I’m not a big fan of fighting but there is a time and a place. Weber tried to engage Hyman at the second period buzzer, and I don’t blame the Leafs rookie for not exactly being interested in a dance with the Montreal Man Mountain. But after Price lost his marbles on Kyle Palmieri earlier this season following being run into by the New Jersey Devils winger, no question a recycled narrative that is re emerging is the protection of goalies. There should be zero tolerance for crashing the crease.

ET). Here what to watch for:

Crosby vs. Oshie’s goals in Game 1, but Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan had zero intention of shying away from that top line matchup in Game 2.

“No, I’m not going to avoid it,” Sullivan said Saturday morning. “We don’t mind that matchup. I think Sid’s line can play against anybody and he’s done that all year long and they’ve produced. Even though they didn’t score the other night doesn’t mean they didn’t have quality chances or have a fair amount of, I think, offensive zone time. We liked a lot of what Sid’s line did, and we feel as though if they continue to play the game the way they’re playing, they’re going to end up on the score sheet.”

Crosby had an outstanding two way season; the defensive part of his game remains so underrated. You can expect a bounce back game from his line in Game 2 if indeed they are matched up again versus Nicklas Backstrom, Alex Ovechkin and Oshie.

“We play against a lot of top lines like that and obviously their dynamic is special, they’ve got a great playmaker and a guy that doesn’t need a lot of room,” Crosby said Friday. “It’s about being aware of that, but we have to go out there and have the attitude that we can score too. That’s why you work all year on playing good defensively, playing as a unit out there, and kind of letting the offense take care of itself. I don’t think we need to change a thing. We need to make sure we’re paying attention to the right things and not giving them easy things, but they’re a good line and they’re going to get chances. We’ve got to get ours, too.”

Kunitz in?: Chris Kunitz, who left Game 1 after taking a puck to the side of the head, skated Saturday morning and Sullivan said the veteran Penguins winger would be a game time decision.

“He feeling better,” Sullivan said. “He a tough kid. He wants to play. He’ll be a game time decision. I think he was fortunate with the way that happened. It was kind of a fluke incident.”

Kunitz said Saturday morning after the skate that he felt pretty good and sounded like a guy that was expecting to play. As for getting hit by a puck while sitting on the bench, that a first for him.

“It the first time where you sitting on the bench like that,” said Kunitz. “I just tried to turn and avoid the puck and it found its way up my ear.”

Kunitz missed the rest of the game, he said, because he was undergoing the concussion testing protocol.

Wilson’s side of the story: A day after getting fined for his knee on knee hit on Connor Sheary, rugged Caps winger Tom Wilson insisted he wasn trying to injure the rookie Penguins forward.

“Honestly, on that play I wasn even going to hit him,” Wilson said Saturday morning. “That wasn my intention. I was just trying to kind of bluff cheap authentic jerseys
check him, give him a fake and kind of go to the bench and our legs got caught up. Hockey a fast game, and sometimes stuff happens that you don really intend on. I think it looked a lot worse than the outcome was. The impact really wasn that great. He was trying to get out of the way. Just kind of an unfortunate circumstance, but the league does their job. They watch pretty much all my hits, I sure. When you play the game hard, you going to get under a microscope, and you just got to make sure you playing within the rules.”

As the final is played over the next two weeks, the Russian national team is preparing for some upcoming games.

They run two teams all the time. The A team, with a varying roster, is the team that plays in the world championships and events like the Euro Hockey Tour. The last stage of that event, the Czech Hockey Games, is at the end of April and serves as a tuneup and selection camp for the World Championships which begins on May 5. The roster for the Czech tournament is yet to be announced, but it will depend on who exits the Gagarin Cup Finals in one piece. Most of the top Russian players are still playing KHL hockey.

Meanwhile there is a set of friendly games against France beginning on April 13, and for that event the Russians are sending their B team, sometimes called the Olympic team. Lately they’ve been using that B team as a U25 team to get a better handle on the state of their young players. A lot of those top Russian players in the KHL final are in their thirties or close to it.

The second game brought the best news: the return from injury of Johan Sundstrm, Grundstrm’s usual centre and last year’s playoff MVP. The more balanced lineup brought success, but it came from Casey Wellman who had a hat trick and an assist from a team leading six shots on goal.

Frlunda dominated the possession in this game, and Grundstrm had some scoring chances and caused his usual amount of trouble getting in tight to the net and digging for pucks. The score was 6 1 at the end, and Bryns had met the real Frlunda offence.

The next game was more Wellman as he had an astonishing 11 shot attempts to lead the team to another dominating performance. He’s hot, so the team are getting him the puck. He had two goals and one assist in a 6 3 win.

Grundstrm, hitting his stride with Sundstrm back, had the second highest shot rate, and it really seems like only a matter of time before his more physical line starts to score.

Game four of the series was Saturday and it started out good. Wellman was still hot, and he tied the game up after an opening Bryns goal.

Sundstrm followed up with first, a great chance while Grundstrm was screening the goalie, and then a goal while Grundstrm was still driving the net. They are back on form.

Bryns dominated utterly in the second and tied the game. They were nearly as strong in the third, and got the go ahead goal. Frlunda tied it up at three, but it was Bryns with the drive and the luck, and they took it with a goal in the last minute of play after surviving a power play against.

In authentic jerseys cheap
even more promising news, they have hired Hans Srkijrvi as their new head coach. This is equivalent to the Florida Panthers adding Ken Hitchcock as soon as the season is over. This shows the team is very serious about capitalizing on there good junior players, building for the future, and getting back in the SHL where they feel they belong.

For , that says he’s not stuck on a bad team, like Grundstrm felt (rightly) he was last year with the club, but that he’s in on the ground floor of a rebuilding team.

That’s all for this week, next week we’ll know the fate of Carl Grundstrm, will have played a few games of his final, and we will be very close to the end of the European season with only the World Championships to look forward to to cap it off.

GLENDALE, Ariz. The Arizona Coyotes are finally out of last place.

Radim Vrbata scored two goals against his former team, and the Arizona Coyotes jumped out of the cellar in the Pacific Division with a 4 3 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.

Luke Schenn and Alexander Burmistrov also scored for Arizona, and Max Domi had two assists. Louis Domingue stopped 26 shots to help the Coyotes win for the third time in four games and move a point ahead of the Canucks in the standings. Arizona has one game remaining while Vancouver has two.

“You want to have that good feeling going into summer and know that you can win early next year,” Vrbata said. “There’s not much to play for, but there’s lots of guys who want to improve, there’s a lot of guys who are playing for their contracts, so you want to do things right. We’ve played some good games the last two months.”

Nikolay Goldobin had the tying goal in the first period, and Brock Boeser and Daniel Sedin scored in the third for Vancouver, which lost its sixth straight. Henrik Sedin had three assists and Ryan Miller finished with 18 saves.

Vrbata, who played for the Canucks from 2014 16 and is the Coyotes’ leader in goals and assists this season, put Arizona ahead 2 1 early in the second period. The 35 year old reached 20 goals in a season for the sixth time in his career.

“He’s just a real consummate pro who’s played real well authentic jerseys cheap
for us,” Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. “Playing against his old team, I’m sure he wanted to finish that off right. I think he wants to finish the year out strong.”

The Coyotes scored twice on the power play and are 6 for 12 on the man advantage over their last five games.

Schenn’s first goal of the season in his 77th game in his first season in Arizona and first in 100 games came six minutes into the first period as the veteran defenseman stuffed a loose puck past Miller’s glove side.

“Better late than never,” Schenn said. “I don’t have to go into next season thinking that I didn’t score last year.”

The Canucks answered less than two minutes later. The Sedins teamed up to get the puck to Goldobin for an easy goal. It was Goldobin’s second in 12 games with the Canucks.

The Coyotes went ahead 2 1 just 55 seconds into the second as Vrbata got the puck off the boards behind the net and caught Miller out of position.

A holding penalty on Michael Chaput at 9:33 of the middle period gave the Coyotes a power play. Just seven seconds later, Alex Goligoski unleashed a slap shot that was deflected to Burmistrov, who knocked in the rebound for his fourth goal in the last four games.

Vrbata scored again with 3:49 left in the second on another power play for his 20th to put Vancouver ahead 4 1. His shot hit Miller and rolled across the goal line.

The Canucks got a power play goal at 1:47 of the third when Boeser scored to make it 4 2. After Domi missed a penalty shot at 6:03, Daniel Sedin’s 15th of the season about 6 1/2 minutes later pulled Vancouver within one.

The Canucks pulled Miller for an extra attacker with 1:45 to play but couldn’t get the tying goal.

“Our first period was the most decent, our second was not good enough,” Daniel Sedin said. “Being down 4 1 to a team is tough . we had a good pushback but it wasn’t enough.”

Things did not look good authentic nhl jerseys cheap
for the Rangers after losing Marian Gaborik and Chris Drury during the team’s home opener October 15. Hearing that Vinny Prospal would be out for several months following knee surgery didn’t make matters any easier. Not many thought that would change the course of a season for the Rangers.Since that game, the Rangers have gone 3 1, including beating two of the NHL’s hottest teams (Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs) and the New Jersey Devils. In the process, they have established themselves as a hard nosed, in your face physical team that is not easy to play against.I thought the season was going down the tubes, especially following last Monday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche. But the team has turned things around with Artem Anisimov, Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan leading the way. This impromptu top line has done everything for the team, from scoring goals to killing penalties. On top of that, each player is home grown, eliminating the notion that the Rangers just buy their top tier talent. The emergence of Anisimov on the top line is great for Rangers fans to see, as many felt he was not given a fair chance during the preseason and training camp.Derek Stepan, Sean Avery and Ruslan Fedentenko has been great as well. Stepan has obviously cooled down since his hat trick on opening night, but has still been very effective. Avery has finally seemed to find a balance with playing hockey and getting under the opposition’s skin. Fedetenko has also been finding the net, and seems to be on the right track. The best story thus far has been the success of Brian Boyle. He seems like he is very well liked in the locker room, and really came to camp this season knowing that he had to work to make the team. Other guys would have folded under the pressure, but Boyle used it as motivation and is off to a great start. If he can find his goal touch that he had in college, he’ll be a great third line center for a couple of years to come. The defense is still a question mark based on their youth. I’m glad to see that coach John Tortorella is giving Matt Gilroy a chance after scratching him to open the season. He brings a nice dynamic to a more defense oriented blueline.Dan Girardi and newly named assistant captain Marc Staal will give you shutdown defense night in and night out, and Michael Del Zotto seems to be feeding off them defensively. The sophomore defenseman has been more sound in his own end since the Islander game two weeks ago. Many Rangers fans would hate to admit it, but Michael Roszival has been very solid thus far this season. I wasn’t sure what kind of start he would have since taking over as the No. 1 whipping boy at Madison Square Garden with Wade Redden’s demotion to the AHL, but he’s played well, especially on the road. Finally in net, Henrik Lundqvist must have been telling the truth about getting into a groove to start the season. The Rangers played very spaced out games early on and are now finally getting into the meat of their season. Martin Biron showed he is more than a capable backup, and should be able to take a lot of pressure of Lundqvist.Obviously it is still very early, but there are positive signs that this team is getting it. Their hard nosed, North American style is winning games. Their team play is necessary moving forward with a complete lack of star power up front. It may not last, but right now, Ranger fans should be happy.

Carolina Hurricanes’ Bryan Bickell will play his first game in the NHL on Tuesday since being diagnosed with MS. (Chris Szagola/AP)Carolina Hurricanes forward Bryan Bickell will make his return to the NHL Tuesday night, nearly five months after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The Stars found a way to pull some meaning out of a meaningless game Tuesday.

With Dallas and Arizona destined to miss the playoffs and battling only for pride, the Stars’ kids were given the spotlight and found it quite comfortable.

Julius Honka scored his first NHL goal in overtime to give Dallas a 3 2 win and provide a heck of a memory for the 21 year old defenseman. The 14th overall pick in the 2014 entry draft, Honka has spent three years in the AHL. Now, with a late season call up, he’s looking to make the NHL his permanent home.

Tuesday’s performance was a great step in that direction.

Honka played 15:47, had five shots on goal and looked like a calm veteran during the 3 on 3 overtime period. The Stars have struggled with the extra stanza this season and still are just 5 9. But they controlled much of the OT play against the Coyotes, and Honka came up with a huge shot off assists from Jason Spezza and Gemel Smith.

“I think he’s getting a little bit more confident to get involved on the offensive side,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. “He’s done a nice job moving the puck. The overtime is a time when he should excel with that much ice and the way he can skate.”

Too often this season, the Stars’ skilled players weren’t able to finish chances at key moments in overtime, but Honka set the puck on the ice and slapped a shot past Arizona goalie Mike Smith, who was having a fantastic game.

“I feel way more comfortable with the puck, and it helps me to play my game,” Honka said. “Obviously, I like to play with the puck a lot, and here if you have confidence it helps to play your game.”

It helped make up for Dallas giving up the tying goal with 4:27 left in regulation and pushed the Stars to 33 36 11 on the season. Arizona will likely be in the top three in draft selection as it fell to 29 41 10.

Jason Dickinson scored his first goal of the season and second of his career. Gemel Smith tallied an assist on the game winner. Esa Lindell played 24:24 and had three blocked shots.

“I thought the young guys really played well and skated cheap jerseys china
well,” Ruff said. “Dickinson was in on two or three real good opportunities. I thought Smitty did a heck of a job in overtime getting up ice and creating a couple of opportunities. Overall. I thought the young guys really skated well.”

MOSCOW Jaromir Jagr signed with a Russian team a day after his split with the New York Rangers, returning to the club he joined during the NHL’s 2004 05 lockout.

The Russian League team Avangard Omsk announced the signing of the 36 year old Czech winger on its Web site Friday.

Jagr’s agent, Pat Brisson, confirmed the signing in an e mail. He and Jagr, as well the team, wouldn’t comment on contract terms. However, the deal is believed to be for two years plus an option for a third, and will pay Jagr about $7 million tax free the equivalent of about $11 million a season in the NHL.

“It was a very difficult but personal decision to make in light of the many NHL teams interested in his services,” Brisson said. “He is grateful to the NHL and especially the Rangers in recent years.”

Jagr enjoyed his experience in Omsk during the lockout.

“Don’t forget I’m from Europe,” Jagr told the Canadian Press. “Russia is nothing new for me. It’s close to the Czech Republic. It would be different for American or Canadian players. But for me, I enjoy it. The people love hockey and I had a great time out there.”

Pittsburgh, Edmonton and the Rangers are believed to have had the most interest in Jagr. All offered one year deals.

“I want to thank all the teams that still believed in me and still made an offer,” Jagr said. “Edmonton was probably the biggest offer I got. It was a great offer, to be honest with you.”

Jagr had long been reported to be considering lucrative offers from Russia. Rangers general manager Glen Sather grew impatient waiting for serious negotiations with Jagr’s wholesale authentic nhl jerseys
side and went in another direction Thursday, signing former Vancouver Canucks captain Markus Naslund and making Jagr’s return unlikely.

“I’m thankful for the three years I had in New York,” Jagr said. “They were great years. I understand that I’m older and the team decided to go in a different direction because they couldn’t get the deal done.”

If Jagr had reached 84 points or won a major NHL award this season, his expiring contract would have been automatically extended for one year.

He just missed being league MVP two years ago when he was the runner up after breaking Rangers records for goals (54) and points (123) in a season.

Though Jagr finished with 71 points this past season, his inspired play over the final weeks of the regular season and his five goal, 10 assist outburst in 10 postseason games showed he has plenty of game left.

Jagr began his NHL career in 1990 and played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals and the Rangers. In 1,273 NHL games, he had 1,599 points on 646 goals and 953 assists.

The Rangers reached the playoffs each of the last three seasons the past two with Jagr as captain but didn’t get past the second round.

After the Rangers’ season ended, Jagr indicated he planned to eventually return to the Czech Republic to play for his hometown club in Kladno.

“I don’t think I would sign longer than two years, just because of my dad,” Jagr said in May. “He asked me to come home in two years. He’s helping to build a new arena there and he wants me to be there.”

The forward situation for the Stars has become more scrambled as they try to finalize their lineup for opening night Oct. 13 against the Anaheim Ducks at American Airlines Center.

Center Tyler Seguin, who suffered a hairline fracture in the heel during preparations for the World Cup of Hockey, is skating in full practices but won’t play against the Los Angeles Kings in the Stars’ final exhibition game Friday in Las Vegas. Still, coach Lindy Ruff said he believes Seguin will be ready for the season opener “in all likelihood.”

“We want to get him to be where he’s comfortable playing,” Ruff said. “It’s hard to put it at 100 percent. When he’s comfortable, that’s when he’ll play. He’s moving close to that direction.”

Moving away from that direction is winger Ales Hemsky. He suffered a groin injury in the World Cup and has had a setback in his rehab.

“He’s being re evaluated. We’ll see where he’s at Monday or Tuesday,” Ruff said. “It’s probably pushing him back a little bit. I don’t know where he will be for opening night. That’s in question now.”

Meanwhile, authentic nhl jerseys cheap
Devin Shore, who suffered an ankle injury in training camp, is expected to play against the Kings, and the Stars are giving a tryout to former Minnesota forward Justin Fontaine.

Shore, 22, had 26 points (15 goals, 11 assists) in 23 games in the AHL last season before injuring a shoulder. He might be the Stars’ most NHL ready prospect. Fontaine, 28, had 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) in 60 games with the Wild last season. He’s an unrestricted free agent.

The Stars also have injuries to Mattias Janmark (knee, with April return) and Cody Eakin (knee, with November return) and lost Valeri Nichushkin to the KHL. Gemel Smith and Adam Cracknell have done the most in preseason to help fill in.

The Stars and Kings on Friday will play the first hockey game in the new T Mobile Arena, which will be home to the yet unnamed Las Vegas franchise entering the league next season.
